our approach

In this full-gut transformation of a Charles Dubois original, the architecture evolves from its mid-century roots into a residence defined by a deliberate tension between grounding permanence and ethereal levity. By reconfiguring the home’s original circulation, the renovation replaces predictable transitions with a choreographed journey that emphasizes the precision of every junction and detail. This newfound architectural weight provides a sense of sanctuary, yet it is constantly punctuated by the strategic introduction of natural light, which acts as a secondary building material to soften the structure’s edges.

The landscape just beyond the full height sliding glass doors is no longer a peripheral element but is instead pulled deep into the interior through a sophisticated use of mirrors and reflections, creating a hall-of-records effect where the greenery and sky become integral to the room’s texture. As one moves through the house, the mountains are revealed in curated "peekaboo" moments in the form of unexpected apertures that frame the rugged peak. This sense of discovery extends to the program itself, most notably in the transformation of a former guest closet into the primary social anchor of the home, turning a once-static storage space into a cozy epicenter for focus or passive entertainment.

Woven through this rigorous structural logic is a streak of intentional quirkiness that prevents the inherent modernism from feeling clinical. Tactile surprises, such as a custom front door pull and a playful mix of art and furniture, introduce an eclectic soul to the space. By contrasting high-design precision with these soulful, personal flourishes, the home honors the Dubois legacy not through mere preservation, but by creating a living environment that is as intellectually grounded as it is whimsically expressive.
